Terms of Use
Last Updated: May 2025
1. Introduction
Welcome to crimestats.ie (the “Website”). By accessing or using any feature of the Website, including any associated mobile or desktop application, you (the “User”) agree to be bound by these Terms of Use (the “Terms”). If you do not agree to the Terms, you must immediately discontinue your use of the Website.
2. Purpose of crimestats.ie
crimestats.ie consolidates and presents publicly available crime statistics by Garda District within Ireland. Users may search by address or Eircode to view historic crime trends and statistical comparisons (collectively, the “Report”). All underlying crime data is sourced directly from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the Garda Mapping Unit and An Garda Síochána (together, the “Source Agencies”). crimestats.ie does not alter or verify the Source Agencies’ data; it merely reproduces it in a user‑friendly format.
3. Account Registration & Eligibility
Certain features—such as saving searches, accessing premium Reports or subscribing to periodic updates—require the creation of a personal account (“Account”). By registering an Account, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age and legally capable of entering into binding contracts. You must provide accurate, complete and current information during registration and update such information to keep it accurate. You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your Account.
4. Subscription Plans, Payment & Billing
crimestats.ie may offer recurring monthly or annual subscription plans (each, a “Plan”) as well as one‑off premium Reports (each, a “Paid Report”). All fees are listed in euro (€) and are inclusive of applicable Irish VAT unless expressly stated otherwise. By selecting a Plan or purchasing a Paid Report, you authorise crimestats.ie (or its third‑party payment processor) to charge the payment method you provide for the applicable fees on their due date.
- Recurring charges: Plan fees recur automatically at the billing frequency you select (e.g., monthly) until cancelled. You may cancel any time via your Account dashboard; cancellation prevents future charges but does not trigger a refund of fees already paid.
- Failed payments: If a payment is declined, crimestats.ie may suspend or terminate access to the Plan or Paid Report until all outstanding amounts are settled.
- No refunds: Except as required by law, all payments are non‑refundable. crimestats.ie nonetheless reserves the right—at its sole discretion—to issue credits or refunds.
5. Data Accuracy
The statistics reproduced on the Website and in a Report are provided “as is” from the Source Agencies, without independent verification. crimestats.ie makes no representation, warranty or undertaking, express or implied, regarding the completeness, timeliness, reliability, quality or accuracy of such data. The Source Agencies may revise their datasets at any time; therefore, figures displayed on the Website may be incomplete or outdated.
6. Interpretation of Risk
Any indicator, colour coding or descriptor such as “low”, “average” or “high” crime rate is derived solely from historic incident volumes relative to population size. These indicators are not predictive of future crime, and crimestats.ie does not warrant that any location is safe or unsafe. Users should corroborate information with independent sources before relying on it for personal safety, investment, insurance or property decisions.
7. No Legal or Professional Advice
The content on the Website—including any Report—is made available solely for general information. Nothing constitutes legal, financial, investment, insurance, real‑estate, security or other professional advice. Users must obtain advice from qualified professionals appropriate to their particular circumstances before acting on any information found here.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, crimestats.ie, its directors, officers, employees, agents, contributors and licensors (collectively, the “Released Parties”) shall have no liability whatsoever for any loss, cost, claim, expense or damage of any kind—including, without limitation, direct, indirect, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, loss of profit, goodwill, business opportunity or data—arising out of or in connection with the User’s access to, reliance on or use of the Website or any Report. If, notwithstanding the foregoing, liability is imposed on the Released Parties, it shall be limited in the aggregate to the lesser of (i) the amount actually paid by the User (if any) for access to the relevant Report or Plan, and (ii) one hundred euro (€100).
crimestats.ie is not responsible for any errors, delays, or issues arising from third-party payment processors, including Stripe. Users are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of their payment information and resolving disputes directly with Stripe where applicable.
9. External Links
The Website may contain links to third‑party websites or resources. crimestats.ie is not responsible for the availability, content or accuracy of external sites and does not endorse and is not liable for any content, advertising, products or other materials on or available from such sites.
10. Use of Google Services
We employ Google reCAPTCHA to protect forms from abuse and Google Analytics to understand Website usage. By using the Website, you acknowledge that Google may collect and process data in accordance with its Privacy Policy.
11. Open‑Source Data & Public Information
All crime data presented on the Website is based on public datasets. crimestats.ie claims no proprietary rights over the underlying data and cites all sources where applicable. If you believe any data is inaccurate or misrepresented, please contact us.
